Response to Shao Ye's entry:
Its tough living on an island when you do not just buy food from the supermarket. Life is very lonely too when you can only talk to your father. However, Nim's life is not boring as I first thought of. She has many animal friends and when her father is away, she tries to keep people out of their island. After reading this entry, it makes me want to watch this movie several times.

Comments in response to Jinyin's book entry:Totto-Chan

After reading the book review, I know that Totto-chan is a lively and cheerful girl but because of her curosity, she gets into lots of trouble. It sounds quite fun to have adventures in school but I think it is quite impossible as a school is so small. But if there really is adventures in school, then it will be very fun and enjoyable. This book review really made me want to read the book and find out what happened in the end.

Title: BFG

Author: Roald Dahl

1. The plot follows a little orphan girl named Sophie. One night she got out of bed to look out the window. Outside, she saw this BIG BLACK... THING! Whatever it was, it was twice as tall as the orphanage – and it was a big orphanage! From across the street, the thing grabbed Sophie and ran faster and faster! Finally it reached its home and set Sophie on the table. He was big and friendly and, well, a GIANT but BFG wasn't going to eat her. Sophie then learned that there are other ghastly giants, three times the size of BFG, that go on eating children every night!
2. i) The Giant: The giant is unlike other giants and he is very friendly because he does not eat children every night.
ii) The other giants: They are horrible and cruel because they feed on children every night. They are also very large as they are three times bigger than the friendly giant.
3. The phrase is 'The pen is mightier than the sword'. I learnt that knowledge is more useful and powerful than strength.

Headline:We believe he's still in S'pore

Date of article:5 June 2008

It is now 100 days after his escape abd the "wanted" posters of Mas Selamat posted everywhere are fading. News of the manhunt has given way to a heated discussion over where the buck should stop, then it was eclipsed by news of a cyclone in Myanmar and earthquake in China.

Last month, Deputy Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng explained in Parliament that the Government must continue to work on the basis the Mas Selamat is still in Singapore. This is because it has received no information that he fled to another country.

On the first two weeks of the June holidays, I had lots of fun. My parents took my brother and I to different restaurants to try out different food. Other than restaurants, we also went to swimming pools and gyms with my aunts and uncles. My most favourite thing that i did was going shopping and watching movies with my family. Although I seemed to have lots of fun, I did have unhappy moments. Like doing homework and household chores. But I did have fun after all and I think that the next two weeks of the June holiday would be even better.

Title: Charlotte's Web
Author: EB White

1. This story is about a young girl named Fern finds herself a part of. Fern spends her free time with Wilbur the pig whom she loves and the other barn animals who play a large part in the life of Wilbur. Charlotte A. Cavatica, the large grey spider, befriends Wilbur and helps him deal with the shocking news that his life will end as bacon on someone’s plate. Charlotte goes as far as coming up with an interesting plan that only this spider could carry out with the help of Templeton the rat (who never does anything unless there is something in it for himself) to help Wilbur escape death.

2.
i. Wilbur:The runt of his litter, Wilbur is saved from certain death and coddled from day one. Wilbur has a good, child-like heart, but is unable to make decisions for himself and is often unaware of the events around him that do not involve him directly. He goes from one mother figure, Fern, to another, Charlotte. He also seems to have very low self-esteem, and is always in need of an ego boost from Charlotte.

ii.Charlotte is a wonderful character in the novel. Her quiet patience and devotion to Wilbur is admirable.

3. The phrase is' A thing worth doing is worth doing well'. I learnt that when one undertakes any tasks, one must be committed in doing it properly.

Title: Matilda
Author: Roald Dahl

1. Matilda is the youngest child, and only daughter, of Harry and Zinia Wormwood, who are described as living "in a very nice neighborhood in a very nice house", but not being very nice people. Mr. Wormwood is a used car salesman with the police tracking his every move, and Mrs. Wormwood is obsessed with bingo parlors and television game shows. Both parents are extremely neglectful of their little six-and-one-half year old daughter, even though she shows signs of amazing intelligence and various remarkable powers. Eventually, Mr. Wormwood notices his daughter long enough to send her off to Crunchem Hall, an elementary school lorded over by the ogre-like Miss Trunchbull, whose motto is "Use the rod, beat the child." She practices what she preaches, taking delight in punishing her charges and informing them mercilessly that her idea of a perfect school is one where there are no children. Fortunately for Matilda, her first grade teacher, Miss Honey, is kind and good- hearted, and immediately recognizes her new student's amazing gifts.

2.
i. Miss Honey: Miss Honey is kind-hearted because she do not scold children for no reason and she talks to them nicely.

ii. Miss Trunchbull: Miss Trunchbull is a harsh, cruel educator and tyrant because she treats children badly and calls them names.

3. The phrase is' A rose by any other name will smell as sweet'. I learnt that it is the thing itself that matters and not what it is called.
